Heart Rate Variability (HRV) - sudden death / ventricular arrhythmias - 24470

HRV is a measurement of the autonomic control of the heart. An increased vagal activity is reflected in an increased HRV reducing risk to sudden death via ventricular arrhythmias. Sympathetic overactivity decreases HRV increasing the risk to sudden death and ventricular arrhythmias. [BMJ, 1996;312:677-678. 24470 (1996)] Summary Interview
