Vitamin B1 (thiamine) between 600 mg/day (60 kg = 132 lbs) to 1,500 mg/day (90 kg = 198 lbs) taken orally in patients with Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis with normal blood levels of thiamine and thiamine pyrophosphate showed regression of fatigue. Vitamin D deficiency was significantly more prevalent in patients with active ulcerative colitis compared with inactive disease (68% vs 32%) and vitamin D deficient patients were more likely to be prescribed steroids than those with sufficient levels (47% vs 7%).
