Ocean Spray Cranberry Classic at 5 ml/kg/day up to 300 ml/day in one or two doses with meals reduced the number of UTI recurrences and time on antimicrobials. No side effects were noted. Compliance was not optimal. Consuming the juice with a straw may improve compliance. Cranberry juice proanthocyanidins may work by inhibiting the attachment of E. coli (bacteria) to the uroepithelium; may inhibit E. coli from forming biofilms in bladder uroepithelium' or may alter gut flora positively.
