'New' Staying Healthy Today Radio Interview - Diabetes Reversal in Less Than 60 Days - A Case Study

Sleep Apnea (and Snoring) Simple Things You Can Do

Sleep apnea is a common disorder in which your breathing stops or gets very shallow. Typically the pauses last 10 to 20 seconds or more and can occur 20 to 30 times or more an hour.

While 31% of adults in U.S. 20 years of age or older may complain of sleep apnea symptoms, but the prevalance is estimated to be approximately 1 in 15 or  18 million (6.62%) people in USA while 2-4% of Americans may be undiagnosed.

The most common type of sleep apnea is obstructive sleep apnea. This means you are unable to get enough air through your mouth and nose into your lungs. When that happens the amount of oxygen in your blood may drop. Normal breaths resume with a snort or choking sound. People with sleep apnea often snore. But not everyone who snores has sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is a serious problem not only because being tired the next day can lead to miskakes, accidents, low energy and poor physical performance, but reduced oxygen intake can aggravate any vascular disease because less oxygen is getting into the blood.

Simple Things Your Can Do

Anything that can decrease upper airway congestion, inflammation and reduce swelling in the nose, ears and mouth will help in sleep apnea management or prevention.

  • Reduce inhalant allergies (nationallergysupply.com, clean home environment, especially the bedroom).
  • Reduce food allergy/intolerance with the BED Diet and Diet Symptom Diary. Or stay off ALL dairy products and/or wheat for the 1 month at least.
  • Don't sleep on your back. .
  • Avoid alcohol in the evening.
  • Avoid sedatives.
  • Avoid narcotics.
  • Avoid sleeping pills.
  • Stop smoking.
  • Elevate the head of your bed.
  • Get more sleep, don't get over-tired.
  • Weight reduction and normalization.
  • Normalize weight with mainly a whole food, unrefined plant based diet with small amounts of lean animal foods if you have to. This diet should be low in calories and high in nutrients.
  • Saline rinse or sinus flush 1 to 2 times daily.
  • Vitamin C 1000-10,000 (bowel tolerance).
  • Quercetin 250-1000 milligrams per day.

Out of all the possible treatments for sleep apnea weight normalization, eating off the BED Diet food list for a minimum of two weeks, preferrably a month, and flushing your sinuses 1-2 x daily are the three most important and frequently ommitted approaches for controlling or eliminating sleep apnea.

If you remember or try nothing else - eat whole foods and eliminate ALL diary products for one month. The more you are startled by this recommendation, the more you need to avoid ALL dairy products for a month. One of the most common feedbacks I get from a talk goes something like this, "You know Kirk I didn't really get into that whole plant-based diet thing, but I did stay off  dairy products for about two weeks and I lost about 10 lbs and my wife said I stopped snorring and my sleep apnea improved." Try this or the BED Diet along with saline rinses, cleaning up your bed room environment along with some vitamin C and you may be presently surprised. And for the long hall lose weight with a whole food, unrefined plant-based diet high in nutrients, fiber and bulk and low in calories.

"Until next time Stay and Be Well,

Kirk
